A few weeks ago I had the pleasure and honour of photographing 13 day old newborn baby Freya, at my home photography studio in Helmshore, Rossendale.  I absolutely love photographing newborn babies, there is something magical about those first few weeks, each baby changes so much from when they are first actually born. A newborn photography session is the ideal thing to capture these precious little people before they change further, this is why I love photography it freezes a moment in time beautifully.

Before a newborn session, I always contact parents to go through what set ups I plan to use on the day, fabric colours, textures to ensure that we are both on the same page for how the end photographs will look.  Freya has the most beautiful dark hair, and after speaking with her parents I decided on using lemon, cream and pinks tones for her newborn session. I wanted to dress her in a lovely lemon knitted romper to complement her colourings, a matching headband in lemon and spring green completed her outfit.  I have a real love for keeping newborn photography sessions quite natural and clean looking, I love the look and feel of using natural materials such as wool blankets and loose fluffy wool curls. Adding a wooden apple crate or a basket to place your baby in, can really change the look and feel of the overall photos.

Newborn sessions always include a parent session as standard. I think its so important to capture photos with your little ones whilst they are so small, sometimes this can seem quite daunting, but its a really relaxed stage of the shoot, plus its means extra cuddles with your newborn!!  I had a lovely morning photographing Freya, she was a joy throughout.
